Proper canopy management encourages new stem growth and crop-bearing branches, improves sunlight penetration, reduces pest and disease pressure, and removes dead or non-productive wood. Well-managed trees are more vigorous, more productive, and easier to maintain over time.

Coffee canopy management focuses on controlling the tree’s shape, density, and height through rejuvenation, pruning, and capping. Rejuvenation renews old or unproductive trees by cutting back main stems and selecting strong new suckers to replace them. Pruning removes excess suckers, opens the tree center, and eliminates dead or low branches to improve airflow and reduce disease. Capping controls tree height by removing the top of the main stem, making harvesting easier. Together, these practices maintain a balanced canopy that supports higher yields and better coffee quality.
